Huli`au Program

A Therapeutic Transitional Living Program for Youth

Hale Huli`au is a therapeutic Group Home for boys who have completed residential treatment and are slowly transitioning back to the community.

The Huli`au Program is a structured, staff-secure, transitional living program for boys who have graduated from Marimed’s Kailana Program (a Community Based Residential Program) but are not ready to transition back to their community or those where returning home is not an option. The eight-bed home, located on the Windward side of O`ahu, is less restrictive than residential treatment yet offers a safe and secure therapeutic environment and services. Youth may attend regular or alternative school settings and participate in vocational activities and community functions, clubs and organizations (such as AA and NA).

Our Mission and Vision

Our Mission: Marimed Foundation’s mission is to deliver ocean and land-based experiences that empower youth and families and strengthen communities.

Our Vision: Hawaii is a state where youth grow and learn in a safe and nurturing environment, free form violence, fear and economic hardship, where families are the building blocks of healthy communities, where cultural diversity is celebrated, and where the public and private sectors work together to insure that those youth who face special challenges, or who encounter difficulties on their journey through adolescence, receive the help they need to become responsible, productive and fulfilled adults.

We Serve

Males, 14 through 18, who face difficult emotional and educational challenges requiring something more structured and restrictive than living at home and need to further their development of skills necessary to make the transition back into his community, school and family system. This program serves adolescent males from Hawai`i dually diagnosed with conduct disorder and chemical dependency.

Enrollment

Most youth enrolled in the program are graduates of Marimed’s residential treatment program (Kailana) and are referred directly by the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division of the State Health Department. Many are directly referred by the Family Court, the Office of Youth Services, or the Department of Education. The home will accept non-Marimed referrals for youth in the Windward District.

Marimed Foundation is a member of the American Sail Training Association, Hawai`i Youth Service Network, Community Works in 96744, and the Hawai`i Chamber of Commerce. Our programs are accredited by the Council of Accreditation.
