The SSV Makani Olu, built by the Marimed Foundation as part of our program to help "At Risk" youth. It's Coast Guard designation as an SSV (Sailing School Vessel) means that we have to operate this ship in a manner that teaches sailing and navigation techniques. Once anchored though, any kind of diving or other water related activities are permissable.

The Ho`ailona, a replica of a Native Hawaiian Sailing Canoe, designed and built by the Marimed Staff is also used in conjunction with our programs to help "At Risk" youth. Although smaller than Makani Olu, there are not restrictions on how we operate this canoe. Our Marine Skills instructor assures me that this is a viable diving platform. One upside is that it is less money per diver than Makani Olu, but one downside is on a calm day, you will probably have to paddle a bit, so it's best suited for in shape young people, unlike myself.
Marimed Foundation is a member of the American Sail Training Association, Hawai`i Youth Service Network, Community Works in 96744, and the Kailua Chamber of Commerce. Our programs are accredited by the Council of Accreditation.
